Looks like the Oscars are back to square one. Comedian Eddie Murphy quit his job as host of the awards show less than 24 hours after producer Brett Ratner resigned. Ratner resigned after being criticized for both using gay slurs during a Q&A session for Tower Heist and for explicitly talking about sex on Howard Stern’s radio show.

As for Murphy, he says “I completely understand and support each party’s decision with regard to a change of producers for this year’s Academy Awards ceremony. I was truly looking forward to being a part of the show that our production team and writers were just starting to develop, but I’m sure that the new production team and host will do an equally great job.”

So what does the Academy think of this? President Tom Sherak says, “I appreciate how Eddie feels about losing his creative partner, Brett Ratner, and we all wish him well.”

What do you think about all the ruckus surrounding the Oscars? Are you sad to see Eddie Murphy go? Who do you think will host the show now?
